Chpater 4m

I begin my writing at my desk in my dorm room with a pencil and paper because when I sit at a computer I get distracted by getting online or listening to music. I use an outline to show myself what I want to say, and what points I want to get across. My outline actually says what I want to say in each section of the paper.
When it comes time to make a rough draft I already know where I want to put certain ideas at in the paper. When I revise I go back and re-read what I have wrote to make sure everything flows nicely, and that I got across the points I was trying to make. Then I go back and read it out loud to see if the paper makes sense.
Workshopping is not my favorite thing to do because most people do not want to offend the writer. The result is usually "oh, your paper is really good you just spelled this wrong." I think only once I have gotten decent feedback on a paper from a peer, but it was only because they were writing about the same subject as me and we got idaes from each other.

Compared to my classmates I think my writing process is similar. Except I have bad ADHD so I cannot sit at my computer and start typing, or listen to music while I write. I want to try giving my paper to person outside of my class to see if they understood it and ask them for help in the revision process.

  1. I can see where you're coming from being distracted by music or other things on your computer if you were to type your essay. I agree with how you outline your paper too, I do pretty much the same thing. Good post :)

  2. I always get really distracted when I'm sitting in front of my computer as well. If the work doesn't have to be typed I try not to have my computer on because it will take me three times as long to get my work done.

  3. I agree that the computer is a really distracting place to do homework, but then again I would never be able to not type my paper. The idea of using an outline is great because it really does get your thoughts in order before you begin to start writing. The workshopping process is like what I have experienced, but I think if you find the right person to get to read your paper, you will be good to go with new information.
